Social

To further its goal of promoting relations between the United States and Australia, the American Australian Association conducts vibrant and extensive social programs. The monthly social reception is an excellent opportunity for networking with the American Australian community in New York.  This is generally held on the first Thursday of the month at the Australian Consulate in midtown Manhattan.

The highlight of the Association's social year is the Annual Australia Day Black Tie Gala held in late January. This is a black tie affair at a premier venue in New York. Valuable prizes are auctioned or raffled to raise funds for charitable and philanthropic programs of the Association.

Other events on the social calendar include our wine tastings, The Annual Corporate Golf Tournament, The Martini Party and The Melbourne Cup Evening with a live feed of the famous horse race in Australia.

Recently, we celebrated the formation of the American Australian Association Wine club, in conjunction with Morrell Wine.  The AAA Wine Club offers wine club members three levels of membership as well as the option to attend complementary wine tastings.

Our Australian Women In New York (AWNY) provides a support group for Australian women and it continues to grow with monthly networking and discussion groups featuring guest speakers. Educational social and cultural tours are also a part of the AWNY programs.

For further information on up and coming social events, please check our calendar listings.

EVENT REPORT

The AAA Martini Night - Thursday, May 1

The AAA hosted a Martini Night for members and guests at the Pegasus Suite
of the famous Rainbow Room on Thursday, May 1.  With over 230 members and guests in attendance, it was a great night to mingle and chat with new and familiar faces while overlooking the stunning evening view of Manhattan. It was a fitting tribute to the AAA, who this year is celebrating their 60th anniversary.

Martini’s were plentiful and delicious stations of pasta and antipasto kept everyone going, although the outright favorite were the racks of lamb. By the end of the night the dance floor was packed with everyone dancing to great songs ranging from disco to Top40 from both the USA and Oz.

We had many wonderful prizes for our raffle with ticket sales benefitting the AAA’s Dame Joan Sutherland Fund. Congratulations to our two winners for
taking home two return airfares to Australia. Thank you to our raffle prize donations from Qantas, The Australian and Fosters Group.

Many thanks to our major sponsors - ANZ Expat Mortgages and Macquarie Group for their fabulous support of the Martini Night and the AAA.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
