About Australian Women In New York
Australian Women In New York (AWNY) was established in June
1999 by a small group of interested women who formed a committee
to discuss options for providing a social focus and networking
opportunities for expatriate women living in the New York area.
From small beginnings the group has expanded steadily and in
2004 has over 200 American Australian Association members on
the mailing/email list. While the majority of members live in
New York City, there is also a good number from New York State,
Connecticut and New Jersey. Our members come from a broad range
of age groups and occupations.

On the second Wednesday of each month, unless otherwise noted
in the calendar, AWNY hosts monthly
meetings at the Australian Consulate, 34th Floor, 150 East 42nd
Street, at 10:30am. A speaker is always invited to address the
group. This also provides an excellent opportunity to catch
up with friends and meet new ones. Members are most welcome
to bring along a guest. Charge per person is $5.00 for members
and $10 for non-members to cover catering costs.
AWNY also arranges educational and cultural tours, led by professional
tour guides, generally on the third Wednesday of each month.
Just to mention some of the places have visited so far - Greenwich
Village & SoHo, the Lincoln Center, Dame Edna, some well known
restaurants in the Flatiron District, Westpoint Academy, the
Tenement Museum, Gracie Mansion and in December, a walking tour
in the midtown area to look at the Holiday decorations. Other
AWNY activities include a Mums & Bubs group and monthly newsletter.
AWNY is always on the lookout for suggestions for activities
and coffee morning speakers. If you have some innovative ideas
or are willing to participate on the committee which co-ordinates
these activities, please contact AWNY's President, Robyn Hughes.
Individual, family, company members & spouses of company members
of the American Australian Association are welcome to be included
on the Australian Women in New York group, (AWNY) mailing /emailing
list and attend events at member prices.
AWNY is a dynamic group which welcomes newcomers and fresh ideas.

Association's office: Tel: 212-338-6860 or e-mail: awny@aaanyc.org
