Mission and Future Directions

MISSION

The American Australian Association’s purpose is to broaden, strengthen and encourage ties across the Pacific through corporate, educational, economic, social and cultural activities.

Established in 1948 by newspaper publisher Sir Keith Murdoch and a group of like minded Australians and Americans, the Association is the largest public not-for-profit organization devoted to building strategic alliances between the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The Association’s corporate membership includes many of the most prominent commercial and financial institutions engaged in business between the United States and Australia and New Zealand.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

The Association has been growing since its beginning in 1948, and the Association’s Board of Directors believe there is substantial scope for further expansion.  With a new full-time President and professional staff in 1995, and the merger of the Association with the Australia Society in 1996, it was possible to expand programs and activities dramatically.  Since that time, the Association has been moving aggressively to enhance its corporate, educational, philanthropic and social programs, to further increase its blue chip corporate membership base (corporate members provide over 80% of annual revenues to the Association) and to take advantage of new opportunities for service to the American, Australian and New Zealand relationship.  The Association is committed to further growth, development and change.
