On Friday, October 6, the American Australian Association and the Embassy of Australia, in conjunction with Australian golf legend Greg Norman, hosted the Inaugural Mateship Charity Golf Tournament at the Lansdowne Golf Club in Leesburg, Virginia.
Attendees were treated to a magnificent day with sun shine, manicured 18-hole golf course and the opportunity to spend time with Greg Norman and Ambassador Joe Hockey. After everyone finished their game, a cocktail reception was held in the Club Rooms where Greg Norman presented awards to the top three foursomes.
Thank you to all our sponsors, in particular Bluescope Steel, Lockheed Martin, IFM Investors, Swiss RE, Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and Bell Helicopter for their incredible support in making this event a huge success. A special thanks is also owed to every veteran who joined us on the day, including WWII veterans Steve Melnikoff and Steve Sardin.
Proceeds from the Mateship Charity Golf Tournament helped further endow the Association’s new American-Australian Veterans’ Scholarship Fund, including the Greg Norman Veteran Scholarship. The tournament is set to become an annual event to raise funds for additional scholarships and the Association looks forward replicating this year’s success in years to come!
