On May 25, we gathered in New York City to commemorate ANZAC Day with the Australian and New Zealand communities.
We were delighted to welcome Australia’s new Consul-General to New York, Heather Ridout AO, who shared poignant remarks at the commemorative service. Admiral Phil Davidson, Former Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, also joined us with a powerful keynote address at our Veterans’ Lunch.
We were brilliantly treated to the gift of music, thanks to Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, with special guest William Barton. They performed several times at both the Commemorative Service and Veterans’ Lunch – a final stop on their recent North American tour.
On this important day of remembrance, we recognize the bravery and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve in our nations’ armed forces. We were honored to be joined by veterans from the The Greatest Generations Foundation and our own Veteran Scholars, among other living heroes. Thank you to two of our wonderful alumni, Emily Leonard and Christopher Wilson, who gave remarks on behalf of the American-Australian Veteran Scholars in attendance. Our ANZAC Day Veterans’ Lunch shares a special place in Emily and Christopher’s hearts – its where they met in 2019. They got married late last year! We loved hearing about this American Australian Association love story four years later.
