2025 Boston Bio Dinner
In June 2025, Boston will host the BIO International Convention, attracting more than 20,000 attendees, including more than 500 delegates from Australia. The American Australian Association will present a celebratory welcome reception and dinner on Friday, June 13 at the Hotel Commonwealth.
The American Australian Association BIO Dinner will highlight Australia’s innovative scientific and technological capabilities and promote Australia as a globally competitive destination for collaborations, partnerships and investment.
This unique evening will provide an excellent opportunity for organizations and individuals to network and support the American-Australian alliance, host clients and colleagues, and engage with corporate, government and educational leaders.

Previously he was a board member of Savara (NASDAQ: SVRA), Arcutis (NASDAQ: ARQT), Annexon (NASDAQ: ANNX), Avistone, and served as board observers of Pharvaris (NASDAQ: PHVS) and Replimune (NASDAQ: REPL). Namal Nawana is a business leader and Healthcare entrepreneur with a particular focus in the Medical Devices and Diagnostics industry.
Mr Nawana is the Chairman and Founder of Neoenta, a wholly owned private venture company with ownership interests and intellectual property assets in healthcare.
He is the Executive Chairman and Founder of Sapphiros (www.sapphiros.com) a consumer diagnostics company in partnership with leading global Private Equity firm KKR. He has previously founded or co-founded several medical technology and in-vitro diagnostics companies including Graphene-Dx, Satio and Neoenta Design. He is the author of numerous US and international patents and select peer reviewed scientific articles.
Mr Nawana has extensive experience leading global public companies and was formerly Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Smith & Nephew Plc, based in the United Kingdom. Prior to Smith and Nephew he was Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Alere inc. a NYSE listed company, until its $8 billion acquisition by Abbott Laboratories in 2017. Alere was known as the global leader in rapid diagnostics delivering some 1.5 Billion tests annually to global markets. Before joining Alere, he spent more than 15 years at Johnson & Johnson in progressively senior leadership roles globally, including the role of Worldwide President of Johnson & Johnson’s multibillion dollar DePuy-Synthes Spine business.
Mr Nawana is a member of the Board of Directors of Hologic, Inc. a Nasdaq listed company and JHPIEGO a non profit organization focused on maternal health in LMIC settings. He is a past board member of Advamed and separately Advamed – Dx the peak industry associations of the Medical Device and Diagnostics industries. He is a past board member of Malaria no More an organization dedicated to the reduction in mortality and eradication of Malaria.
Mr. Nawana holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Medical Science from the University of Adelaide, South Australia, as well as an MBA from Henley Management College.

The Hon. Steven Marshall
President, American Australian Association
Mr. Marshall comes to the Association with experience as a prominent Australian political figure who served as the 46th Premier of South Australia from 2018 to 2022. During his tenure, he concurrently held the positions of Minister for Defense, Space, and Cyber, as well as Minister for the Arts, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs. Marshall led a strategic transformation of the state’s economy, focusing on future industries such as advanced manufacturing, space, and defense. His leadership was instrumental in positioning South Australia as a global hub for innovation, attracting significant investments in the tech, defense, energy, and film sectors.
