Isobel Waters is a South Australian emerging artist in her final year studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Australian National University (ANU). She has received multiple awards including best young artist at the EGAG Wrap, the ANU/Pilchuck partnership scholarship, the Pilchuck outstanding student scholarship, the 2023 ArtsACT under $5k grant, and the American Australian Association 2024 Arts Fund Grant. Isobel’s work combines glass and ceramic materials with mixed media assemblages, creating visceral anthropomorphic pieces which centre around the human body as a means through which she can experience, analyse, and attempt to understand the world. Described as feminist artwork, Isobel’s pieces often discuss the female lived experience including physical objectification, reproductive oppression, and gender discrimination in healthcare. During her studies at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, WA, Isobel will continue to refine her technical glass blowing skills whilst simultaneously exploring the emotive qualities of glass.
