Even before walking, Shanie would use kitchen utensils as sticks, and her brother’s head as a drum. Shanie was destined to be a percussionist. Since then she has completed a Bachelor of Music on full scholarship from Monash University where she won the concerto competition in consecutive years. Other prizes include first place in the Australian Marimba Competition (2015), National semi-finalist in both the ABC Young Performer Award (2012) and the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition (2015, 2012). She has performed as soloist with the Adelaide Symphony and the Monash Academy Orchestras. Shanie has toured Europe as a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, and regularly performs with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She is currently studying a Masters of Music Performance at Northwestern University.
