We welcomed the month of May with a roundtable event, “The United States, Australia, and the New Geopolitics,” hosted in partnership with the United States Studies Centre. The Anthony Pratt Boardroom was used to the full extent of both its physical and intellectual capacity as experts from the center guided and informed conversation.
After a welcome from our President, Amb. (Ret.) John Berry, we heard from Dr. Michael J. Green, Chief Executive Officer at USSC. He addressed the AUKUS environment after the Defence Strategic Review (DSR) was released by the Australian government just recently. His colleague, Professor Peter Dean, was one of the authors and researchers involved with the DSR, whose explanations of the process and findings were veritably illuminating.
The day’s panels explored the many facets of geopolitics, economics, diplomacy, technology, and more. Discussion didn’t end there, as participants continued tackling the bevy of questions and proposed solutions at the Networking Reception. New Consul-General, Heather Ridout AO shared her thoughts after participating in the full panel slate and USSC Chairman Mark Baillie presented her with the centre’s book on the Alliance at 70 years. Our thanks are extended to the incredibly prepared and informative USSC Delegation, the Australian Consulate-General New York, and all those who participated.
