Australia is partnering with the United States and other nations to develop practical and scalable low emissions energy solutions able to drive down carbon emissions.  An array of exciting, high growth businesses are emerging from the transition towards low emissions technology, supported by consumer demand and favorable policy settings.  This event will showcase Australian companies producing green hydrogen, fast electric vehicle chargers and sustainably produced lithium in Australia and the United States, and highlight opportunities for closer collaboration and deeper investment.

 

The 1-hour program will feature welcome remarks by the Hon. Arthur Sinodinos, Australian Ambassador to the US.

Rod Colwell – is a seasoned corporate executive specializing in geothermal, minerals, and commercial property development. He combines 25 years of experience in the property and energy sectors to lead the development of CTR’s direct lithium extraction and geothermal power project in Imperial Valley, California, USA. These world-scale facilities will set new environmental standards for the delivery of battery-grade lithium products and baseload renewable power in a secure US location.

Rod’s leadership and vision is focused on sustainable and competitive minerals supply and clean energy solutions for the future.

Jane Hunter – Jane has been the CEO of Tritium since March 2020. Tritium is a global technology leader in the design and manufacture of fast DC chargers for electric vehicles. Tritium has 90% market share in Australia, 20% of the European market and 15% of the US electric vehicle charging market. They are headquartered in Brisbane at Murarrie and have offices and logistics and production facilities in Los Angeles and Amsterdam.

 

Prior to moving across to Tritium, Jane was the Chief Operating Officer for Boeing’s international advanced technology arm known as Phantom Works, responsible for developing the Loyal Wingman, the first Australian designed and built aircraft in 50 years. This Boeing Division is headquartered in Brisbane, with sites in Saudi Arabia, India, South Korea and the UK.

 

Whilst at Boeing, Jane was also a Company Director of Boeing Defence Australia and Boeing Distribution Services and Chaired the South Queensland Defence Advisory Board. She is currently a Director of the Electric Vehicle Council of Australia.

 

Jane has previously been independently recognised for her work, having received the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Aviation/Aerospace Sectors – Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia at the A18 Airspace Awards, as well as the Women in Defence Award – Project Management category for the Australian Defence Magazine in 2019.

Julie Shuttleworth AM – Ms Shuttleworth commenced as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in February 2018 and appointed CEO Fortescue Future Industries in August 2020.

 

Having joined Fortescue in 2013, Ms Shuttleworth has held General Manager roles at both Fortescue’s Cloudbreak and Solomon mines.

 

Ms Shuttleworth holds a double major in Extractive Metallurgy and Chemistry from Murdoch University and has 27 years’ experience in the mining and resources industry in Australia, China, Tanzania and South America, including 19 years in gold/copper working for Newcrest Mining, Sino Mining and Barrick Gold prior to joining Fortescue.

 

Ms Shuttleworth is a Fellow and Chartered Professional of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), a Member of Chief Executive Women (CEW), a Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust) and on the International Committee of the Society of Mining Metallurgy and Exploration (SME). She has attended Harvard Business School and INSEAD Business School, holds Diplomas in Financial Markets and Management, and sponsors the Julie Shuttleworth Prize in Mineral Processing at Murdoch University.

Julie has received numerous accolades including 2011 Australian Mine Manager of the Year, 2012 West Australian Businesswoman of the Year, she is listed in the 2013 WIM(UK) 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining, and one of the 2014 Australian Women of Influence. In 2021 Julie was recognised for her significant service to the minerals and mining sector and was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia.

Moderator Dr Alan Finkel AO is a neuroscientist, engineer and entrepreneur. He was Australia’s chief scientist from 2016 to 2020, during which time he led the National Electricity Market Review, the development of the National Hydrogen Strategy, and the panel that advised the Australian Government on the 2020 Low Emissions Technology Roadmap.  He is currently Chair of Stile Education, Chair of the Australian Government’s Technology Investment Advisory Council, and Special Advisor to the Australian Government on Low Emissions Technologies.
