The American Australian Association (AAA) is delighted to announce the creation of a new ‘South Australia Defence, Space & Cyber Scholarship’ through support from the South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
This new ‘South Australia’ scholarship will be managed by the American Australian Association, under the auspices of its prestigious Graduate Education Fund, which this year celebrates a historic milestone of 20 continuous years of advancing graduate education, research and exchange between the United States and Australia, through educational scholarships and grants.
This new scholarship was recently announced by the South Australian Premier, The Honourable Steven Marshall MP at a special reception hosted for the American Australian Association by the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, H.E General, the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (ret.) and H.E. Mrs. Linda Hurley at Admiralty House, Sydney.
The South Australia scholarship will complement and support South Australia’s rapidly expanding defence, space and cyber security sectors; help nurture talent for the state’s space ecosystem; and promote interest and awareness in South Australia.
The scholarship will be offered both from the United States to South Australia (US-SA) and from South Australia to the United States (SA-US). Applications for the US-SA scholarship will open on 1 August 2022; followed by SA-US on 1 February 2023. As the scholarship name indicates, eligible candidates must be undertaking PhD or Post-Doctoral research in the fields of Defence, Space or Cyber Security; and have research affiliation with a South Australian educational institution. Successful candidates will receive a scholarship in the amount of USD 40,000.

Background:
The American Australian Association was founded in 1948 by Sir Keith Murdoch to promote cooperation and understanding between the institutions and people of Australia and the United States. In 2002, the AAA established its Education Fund to facilitate knowledge, deepen ties between our countries and transform lives. From five inaugural scholarships awarded in 2002, the AAA has since invested over USD $14 million in support of 900+ American and Australian scholarship recipients. The Education Fund awards and supports Graduate (PhD, Post Doc and Masters) scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine, Health Economics, Sustainability and Journalism); Undergraduate and Graduate scholarships for American and Australian veterans across all disciplinary fields, and arts scholarships and grants. Within each of these educational pillars, the AAA funds scholarships and exchange for Indigenous Australian and Native American recipients.
