Touched by occasions that are silently dissonant, that with a different context seem surreal, Svetlana Bailey builds installations and photographs what she terms in-camera collage. Born in St Petersburg in 1984, Svetlana is represented by Artereal Gallery Sydney and has been an artist in residence at the ISCP in New York, the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture and the Mountain School in Los Angeles. Her work is held in the Australian Government’s Artbank collection and the Library of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and for the last two years running was awarded the Magenta Foundation’s Flash Forward prize. Svetlana received her BFA from UNSW and MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. The AAA grant will support Svetlana in a four week residency at the Vermont Studio Center where she will experiment with mediums in large scale drawings as part of a new body of work.
