Join us to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the historic ANZUS Treaty, which was agreed upon in September 1951. This night of celebration will recognize the alliance between our great nations and the unique mateship that has gone from strength to strength for over 70 years.
70 years ago this September, the United States, Australia and New Zealand entered into the historic ANZUS Treaty to advance three goals to:
- Reaffirm their desire to live in peace with all peoples and all Governments and desiring to strengthen the fabric of peace in the Pacific Area;
- Declare publicly and formally their sense of unity, so that no potential aggressor could be under the illusion that any of them stand alone in the Pacific Area; and
- Coordinate their efforts for collective defense for the preservation of peace and security pending the development of a more comprehensive system of regional security in the Pacific Area.
To commemorate the anniversary of this important and historic treaty and the American-Australian Alliance, the American Australian Association is launching a significant and highly distinguished ANZUS Fellowship of $100,000 per fellow each year in both directions – committing $1 million over 5 years to support future American and Australian leaders. The fellowship will be aimed at attracting high-level senior career experts for a cultural and educational exchange in the areas of diplomacy, defense, innovation or other critical government priorities.
This very special evening will also support the work of the Association and its scholarship programs. Since 2002, the Association has invested over US $13 million to support more than 900 of the best and brightest next generation of innovative American and Australian scholars to build research capacity, discover solutions to pressing global issues and foster ongoing international collaborations.
